Immersive storytelling for next-generation headset platforms is reshaping how audiences experience film - but the production rules are still being written.

Join CoSTAR Live Lab and the creators of The Present - the first UK scripted 180° immersive drama to use the new stereoscopic URSA Cine Immersive camera developed by Blackmagic Design for Apple Vision Pro - for a two-day professional workshop exploring how immersive stories are written, captured and produced.

Aimed at immersive storytellers, creatives, crew and indie production companies from across the theatre, film, TV and immersive or XR industries, this workshop explores the process of creating an immersive film experience with the Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive camera, from development and financing through to pre-production, production and post-production. The event brings together award-winning filmmakers, spatial-audio specialists and University of York researchers to present emerging immersive workflows shaping the future of spatial media.

Topics covered include:

  • Writing and directing for immersive cinema

  • Stereoscopic capture with the Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive

  • Storyboarding, previs and planning

  • Production sound strategies for immersive formats

  • Apple Spatial Audio Format (ASAF) mixing workflow

  • Designing accessible and inclusive spatial sound experiences
